However, I made an IPS patch (which only contains the changed code and is therefore not copyrighted) which can be patched onto a copy of Super Mario Bros and then played.

Once you get it, you'll need to put the rom and my patch into the same directory and use a patching tool. The Rom will now be Super Spartan Bros (you'll have to rename it yourself)
